Your First Time Coworking? Here’s What to Expect

Every day, people are trying coworking for the first time.

If you’re one of those first-time coworkers, willing to give it a shot, you’re not alone. In the U.S., 933,000 people are using coworking spaces, up from 542,000 in 2017. Thousands of them are new to coworking just this year.

If you’re new to coworking, rest assured that coworking sites welcome newcomers and maintain an air of friendly professionalism. At My Space Downtown in Panama City, for example, you can count on other coworkers to be respectful of your privacy but also to welcome you. You’ll appreciate the wonderful amenities, which include things like free Wi-Fi, reception services, free parking, building security, printing services and a breakroom with a fridge, microwave, ice maker and dishwasher. They even have a free shredder.

If you’re ready to give it a try, here are some other positives you can expect:

A Community of Like Minds

Coworking sites, unlike coffee shops or the kitchen table, offer a chance to be around like-minded workers all looking to be productive. You’ll fit right in and might meet people who help you solve a work challenge...or even assist with career networking.

A Variety of Talents

Typically, you’ll be working alongside people just like you who have taken the leap into part-time (or full-time) remote work. They’ll represent different businesses. Usually there is a tech guy or gal among the crowd of coworkers who would be happy to help with technical issues.

A Flexible Setting

Most coworking sites offer a range of work settings for you to choose from. You can grab a chair and plug in your computer at a table with other similar-situated coworkers. Alternatively, you can rent a dedicated desk, a conference room if you need to include others, or an enclosed office if privacy is important.

A Great Location

Many coworking sites, like My Space Downtown, are in the heart of a community, with shopping, dining and other amenities within walking distance. You’ll also very likely have a shorter commute to your coworking site than to your employer, saving fuel and time on the road.

Optional Try-Out Periods

Most coworking sites give you short-term options to see if you like it, so you don’t necessarily have to sign a long-term contract. My Space Downtown, for example, has a daily fee option and a five-day-a-month special rate, among others. You can add on rental of a conference room or an even larger event area. My Space Downtown even offers student and military discounts.

Promising a comfortable first day

Why not give it a try? Even if you come into the space with first day jitters, you’ll soon relax and feel a part of the coworking space. You won’t be alone.  Every day thousands of people try coworking for the first time. If the setting doesn’t meet your needs, you are under no obligation. Pat yourself on the back for trying something new!
